When winter comes, sweaters are the first ones to be needed. When the rainy season starts they are to be kept aside and newly rain coats, jerkins are to be purchased. How useful will it be if one jacket is available that can be used in all the seasons? Massachusetts Institutes students have designed one such jacket. This jacket can withstand the temperature from a minimum of -30^o C to a maximum of 50^o. No matter about the external temperature, it will maintain the body temperature between 18 – 40^o. This jacket runs on batteries and works continuously for 8 hours. This weighs only 650 gms. This is possible with the ClimaCon heat utilizing technology.Vistakula Kranti Kiran who is a MIT mechanical engineering graduate has designed this jacket. He has been awarded the honor of’ Innovator of the year’ from the MIT. This jacket works on the basis of the Peltier effect of 1834. The latest technology developed by Kranti Kiran is not only useful in the production of jackets, but also has many uses. For example, to keep an auditorium totally cool, it will be expensive act to use air conditioners. Generally, ACs gives out cool air by breaking the carbon compounds.  But more energy is required to break these bonds. By using the technology developed by Kranti Kiran cooler can be produced with the minimum expenditure. Presently Reliance ventures and Dama Apparel are jointly planning to produce these new trend jackets.

What is Peltier effect?

Unexpectedly a new discovery has been made a great scientist called JAC Peltier who was working on electricity. When two wires tied and if a small amount of electricity is passed between them the tied portion or the junction of those wires gets heated up. At the same time their other ends will be cool. This is termed as Peltier effect. Peltier has tied a copper wire and bismuth wire and connected a battery to them. Then the junction of these two wires got heated up to a great extent. At the same time the other end of bismuth wire got cooled. When this cool end is fixed in an insulated box it turned to be a refrigerator.
