LAVASA, Hill Station

In India the popular Hill stations like shimla, ooty and Kulu were developed by british during their rule as vacation spots. These hill stations are used for summer holiday destinations in India.? Lavasa, a city (hill station) being developed near to pune and Mumbai. Lavasa is India’s first hill station being developed after independence.

Location of Lavasa:

Lavasa is located ion the backwaters of Warasgaon dam on the Western Ghats in Maharastra state and is at a distance of 50 kms from Pune and 180 kms from Bombay. The total area of Lavasa is 12,500 acres or 51 sq.km.

Developers of Lavasa:

Lavasa is developed by HCC Real Estate, a subsidiary of HCC ( Hindustan construction company and having investments from LM Thapar Group, Venkateswara Hatcheries group, Vithal Naniyar and Deutsche Bank Singapore.

Lavasa intends to serve the housing needs of those working in software companies at the IT Park in Hinjewadi and manufacturing units at Pirangut.

The master plan of Lavasa was developed by HOK, USA, and planning by Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum. Branding is being done by Landor, (Hong Kong) and? Accenture and AC Nielsen have conducted the project feasibility and research. Hincon Techno Consultants is the primary engineering consultant.

Lavasa has got award of excellence from ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects) and was appreciated by Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) for its Master Plan.

Status of Lavasa Hill station project:

The first phase of the Lavasa hill town project is scheduled for completion in Dec 2009.
