Mumbai Driving License : How to get Driving License in Mumbai

Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra state. Maharashtra state is issuing cards for driving licence. The smart card will have a chip with a memory of 4 kb and details of the drivers like photo, address and the offences committed by the driver. Grading will be given to driver?s license. The more the number of offenses committed by the driver the grading will be less.

Those seeking driving license in Mumbai have to go to the nearest RTO (Regional Transport Office) nearest to the residential address of the persons seeking driving license. Initially learner?s license is given. A learner’s license is valid only for a period of six months. If the driving test for a permanent license is not passed during this period, a fresh learner’s license needs to be obtained. Then the applicants for driving license have to pass the test conducted by RTO (Regional Transport Office) authorities. Then driving license shall be issued by RTO.

The age limit for applicants of driving license for private motor vehicles is minimum 18 years and for public transport vehicles it is 20 years.

The following documents are to be submitted for getting learners license along with prescribed fee.

Proof of age: birth certificate/ SSC certificate/ pass port

Proof of Citizen ship: Election Card/ Passport

Proof of residence: passport, ration card, electoral roll, electricity or telephone bill.

Photograph:?3 copies of passport size.

Validity of driving licence for private motor vehicles is 5 years or up to an age of 50 years of licensee. Driving license has to be renewed after the expiry of validity.

    Normally, for duplicate driving licence the form required is Form 9. You can download this from the same website as mentioned below.

What residence proof can I produce? Will lease agreement, bank account or Income Tax recordand PAN card be accpted?
