The Andhra Pradesh state government by its HUDA (Hyderabad Urban Development Authority) has planned to built a 8 lane ORR (outer ring road) around Hyderabad to ease the traffic congestion in Hyderabad and secunderabad area. This is the first of its kind in India. HGCL( Hyderabad Growth corridor Limited) is the agency to look after the ORR of Hyderabad. 1 KM from both side of ORR come under the ORR Growth corridor with special regulations for the development of Commercial, residential and institutional activity. The total stretch distance of the Orr will be 162 km. the time limit to complete the total ORR will be 2001. phase 2 is divided into phase 2 A patancheru on Mumbai Highway to Baghamberpet on Vijayawada highway through narsingi junction and phase 2 B is from Patancheru to Baghamberpet through Shameerpet and Medchal. The ORR is 500 feet wide with 8 lanes supported by service roads on both sides with for railway track trains.
Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh has laid the foundation for the ORR in the year 2004. HUDA has called for the tenders for phase 1 stretching a distance of 24 Kms connecting Gachibowli, the IT corridor of Hyderabad and Shamshabad where the Rajiv Gandhi International airport has come up. The announcement of ORR has caused the prices of properties like land value, plot rates, flats in apartments around the ring road. The builders of Hyderabad has purched lands in and around ORR and have planned projects to develop independent houses, group housing, row houses, duplex houses, apartment complexes with flats and hotels, complexes with office space. The prices of plots and flats in apartments have increased.
Gachibowli in Hyderabad is hub for software companies like Wipro, Microsoft, Google, infotech, satyam, tcs, Polaris, Genpact and other companies that are established in and around Hitech city area.
The phase 1 is divided into Gachibowli to APPA Junction spanning a distance of 12 km was awarded to a Russian company and the second stretch of 12 km from APPA Junction to Shamshabad was given to a continental constructions a Korean company. JBIC (Japan investment bank cooperate) has funded the project to the tune of more than Rs.600 crore.
The work began in the year 2006. The project has got delayed due to the delay in getting clearances by HUDA from forest department and defense authorities and from court cases. The Rajiv Gandhi International airport has got opened in March 2008, and the connectivity to the airport from the city could not be established. With the intervention of the CM (Chief Minister) Dr. YSR (Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy) the HUDA authorities could be able to complete 4 lanes of the 8 lane of the express way from Gachibowli to Shamshabad. This will make the employees and executives of the software companies around gachibowli, madhapur, kondapur and jubilee hills easier to go airport from their offices.
HMDA earlier HUDA authorities are planning to open the 4 lanes of the phase 1 of the ORR on 14th of November and want to name it after Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of Independent India, as Nehru Outer Ring road. Hyderabad ORR is going to be best corridor in Asia once it comes into reality.
